Bulgaria Finance Minister Attends ECOFIN Meeting in Brussels

The Bulgarian Finance Minister Plamen Oresharski is in Brussels to participate in the regularly scheduled meeting of ECOFIN, the Ministry's press center announced on Tuesday.

The ECOFIN meeting is going to work on preparing for the European Council forum to be held on December 11 and 12.

The ECOFIN meeting participants are also going to discuss support for business activities in Europe, ways to deal with the global financial crisis, oil prices, taxation, bank services.

ECOFIN is the popular abbreviation for the Council of Economic and Financial Affairs Ministers that also governs the Economic and Monetary Union.

Before official meetings the 13 countries which have adopted the Euro (the Eurozone), the ministers of these countries sometimes hold informal meetings.

The Lisbon Treaty proposes a more formal role for the ECOFIN ministers from Eurozone countries. According to a special protocol on the Euro-Group, an informal Euro-club will be established with a president elected for 2ВЅ years and unified representation in international forums
