Sofia University "St. Kliment of Ohrid" Celebrates 120th Anniversary

Bulgaria's oldest institution of higher education, the Sofia University "St. Kliment of Ohrid" celebrated Monday the 120th anniversary since its founding with a variety of events.
The celebrations kicked off with a scientific conference at the main building of Sofia University, which was dedicated to the uncertain future of universities in the age of globalization.
As part of the conference the school bestowed its Grand Science Prize of BGN 10 000 to Computer Chemistry Professor Boris Galabov.
The celebrations continued with a special anniversary parade in downtown Sofia of the University's students, faculty, and staff.
The procession went from the main building of the University to the National Theater "Ivan Vazov", and was joined by Bulgaria's President Georgi Parvanov (who is a graduate of Sofia University), the Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev, the Parliament Speaker Georgi Pirinski, the Minister of Education Daniel Valchev, the Minister of Culture Stefan Danailov, as well as by eighty current Members of Parliament, who are all alumni of the school.
A masked ball is scheduled to take place Monday night in the main building of the Sofia University, whose halls will be lit by 120 torches to symbolize the 120th birthday of the institution. The masked ball will include live performances on four stages by ten groups, and is going to continue all night.
