The Bulgarian Cabinet is insisting on the revocation of the transitional periods limiting the free migration of Bulgarian citizens in countries members of the European Union (EU), the Bulgarian Social Minister Emilya Maslarova reported on Monday.
Maslarova spoke during a presentation of the results from the first informational cross-border labor market, which took place on November 15 in the Spanish capital Madrid.
According to Maslarova, the common migration strategy of the EU should not allow for double standards regarding member countries such as Romania and Bulgaria. The Minister added that the Bulgarian Cabinet was going to insist that other countries declare their position about the revocation of the transitional regime.
Maslarova further said that the Spanish authorities were not inclined to revoke the transitional clause due to the global financial crisis.
In Spain, the unemployment level has reached 11%, while Bulgarian emigrants there currently take the 10th ranking among unemployed emigrants.
"Our fellow Bulgarians in Spain are no longer that certain that they would not eventually return back to their motherland. However, a return to one's native country is a decision as complicated as the one to leave. It needs to be carefully examined and it needs time," Maslarova stated.
