Second Richest Bulgarian Receives BGN 503 Monthly Salary

The second richest Bulgarian, businessman Hristo Kovachki lives on a BGN 503 monthly salary, according to a reference made with the Bulgarian National Social Security Institute (NOI), the Bulgarian Information Agency BGNES reported.

For the period of March to December of 2005, Kovachki, whose fortune is estimated at BGN 700 M has paid with NOI obligatory public insurance, guaranteeing a citizen's right to pensions and benefits on the base of a salary of BGN 170.

The current minimum monthly salary in Bulgaria is BGN 220.

The businessman has been registered as receiving a salary from one of his companies - Danesto.

In the last 4 months of 2006 Kovachki has paid insurance based on a salary of BGN 330. In 2007, the insurance was based on BGN 409 and in the first four months of 2008, the energy tycoon has paid public insurance based on BGN 503 and 21-years of employment.

On Wednesday morning the police raided 17 of the offices of the energy businessman, and seized accounting documentation and other evidence.

Later in the day Kovachki was charged with gross tax evasion and was been released on a BGN 300 000 bail.
