Sofia braces up for the first snowfall this season, which is to be seen in about ten days after the cold spell has already come.
The authorities in Bulgaria's capital and its neighbouring district are taking the necessary measures to improve the conditions of the roads before the beginning of the upcoming winter.
"Sofia's crisis staff for coordination of rescue and emergency operations has already held some sittings to discuss preventive measured to be taken on the territory of the city," explained Tsvetoslav Krastev, the deputy district mayor of the capital.
"We are now checking if all the institutions and private companies are ready to help preparations for the winter. They will have to present their reports until Tuesday next week," he added.
The snow storms are to put an end to the warm period with relatively high temperatures and sunshine, which Bulgaria has recently enjoyed.
