As Democrat Barack Obama was elected US president, wild celebrations erupted in the small Japanese town of Obama.

Residents of the fishing town gathered to watch the vote count on television and chanted "Obama, Obama!" as the result was announced. Some showed up wearing "I love Obama" T-shirts.

As even a hula dance group had been formed in Obama in honor of Barack's Hawaiian heritage, some Japanese supporters were clad in hula costumes.

Happy with the victory the residents now hope that the next US president would visit their town.
