Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev awarded Saturday honorary diplomas to renowned Bulgarian professors, inventors and university rectors at a special ceremony on the National Enlighteners Day.
Professor Kamen Vesselinov, rector of the Technical University of Sofia and the representatives of the Patent Office, Anna Chervenkova and Anna Nenova, were among those, distinguished for their work.
"Bulgaria is proud of its scientists, who command respect to the whole country," Premier Stanishev said.
"We have to back the scientific and educational work of such people so that Bulgaria could be competitive to all other great nations," he added.
The prime minister announced the money to be allocated to scientific researches in 2009 amount at BGN 100 M.
The ceremony was held on the occasion of the 100th anniversary since Bulgaria's independence proclamation, marked on September 22.
