The Bulgarian Council for Electronic Media (CEM) discharged on Tuesday as their member Academician Lyudmil Staykov, who has received his CEM membership from the presidential quota.

On October 8, the so-called Files Commission, investigating Bulgaria's communist-era Secret Services' files, released the names of 15 journalists, who have reportedly been agents and collaborators of the former communist regime secret police. Staykov's name was among the 15.

For many years Staykov has been a renowned public figure in Bulgaria, writer, journalist, and best known as the movie director, who created movies such as "Khan Asparuh" and "Time of Violence," recipients of national and international awards.

After the publication of the Files Commission, Staykov adamantly denied ever being involved in the Secret Services' structures.
