Bulgarian farmers are going to receive EUR 5 B for the seven year period between 2007 and 2013, as announced Friday by the Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev.
Stanishev spoke at the official ceremony to inaugurate the start of the informational campaign for the European Union Program for the Development of Rural Areas.
The PM stated that EUR 2 B would be received by the farmers as direct subsidies while over EUR 3 B would be given trough the program.
Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Plugchieva also spoke at the ceremony. She said that there was a need to invest in people of Bulgaria as well. The Bulgarian Agriculture Minister Valery Tsvetanov also took part in the ceremony.
The goal of the campaign is to offer information and expert assistance to farmers, forest owners and municipalities in rural areas. Employees of the Agriculture Ministry are going to inform them about the requirements needed to apply to receive funds from the Program.
