One third of all young people in Bulgaria wish to continue their secondary education in schools abroad, according to a poll conducted by the "Mediana" agency.
The report about the data assessment was presented Tuesday, along with the yearly report about the Bulgarian youth.
The poll included 1197 young people aged from 15 to 35 years. According to the Director of the Sociology Agency that has conducted the poll, the data revealed a serious problem for the Bulgarian secondary institutions.
At the same time, the poll showed that the wide-spread practice to promote students to the next grade, without them having the required knowledge and skills in order to maintain a certain number of classes per grade level, is still continuing in many Bulgarian schools. For example, the poll revealed that 12% of all students did not know what a square root meant.
Young Bulgarians, however, have good computer and language skills. 36% of all Bulgarian students use at least one foreign language, compared to 9% in Spain.
The poll also shows that unemployment of young people in the country is steadily going down and that they are educated, career minded, earn good salaries and go on vacation often. Due to their career advancement, however, more and more young women decide to postpone having a child or not have one at all.
