The Sofia Mayor Boyko Borisov met Wednesday in Brussels with the European Commissioner for Environment Stavros Dimas, and the European Commissioner for Justice, Freedom and Security Jacques Barrot.
The main topics of Borisov's talks with the two commissioners had to do with the construction of a waste-recycling factory in Sofia, and with the steps to fight corruption and organized crime.
According to the European Commissioner for the Environment Dimas, the Sofia Municipality had done and was doing everything on schedule in order to bring about the construction of a waster-processing plant. Dimas stated if there was any sort of the delay in the project it certainly was not the Municipality's fault.
Later Borisov met with the Chair of the group of the European People's Party in the European Parliament Joseph Daul.
"If Borisov was Bulgaria's Prime Minister, we would be stricter and more critical than we are towards the present socialist government, because our expectations for successful policies are greater towards our partners than towards our opponents. Our duty is to make sure that the money of the European taxpayers are spent accordingly", Daul stated when asked whether he would support the freezing of 10% of all EU structural funds for Bulgaria as proposed by German MEPs.
