Bulgaria Expert Investigation of Fatal Train Fire Extended Again

Society | September 4, 2008, Thursday // 00:00

The deadline for the investigation of the fatal fire in the Sofia- Kardam train has been extended by four months, according to the case's monitoring prosecutor Valery Mirchev, who spoke before Darik radio Thursday.

The fire caused the deaths of nine people in February of 2008.

The new extension comes as result of the additional expertise reports that have been ordered. Mirchev explained that at the moment he only had the experts' opinions, but their conclusions were still forthcoming

The prosecutor refused to accept the results from the first complex expertise because he had additional questions including a more thorough analysis of details involving the electrical heating and lighting system of the train, the structure of the metal where the fire broke and the fire's temperature.
