INTERNATIONALLY ACCLAIMED DIRECTOR WITH HONORARY TITLE IN SOFIA

Internationally acclaimed Polish director and screenwriter Krzysztof Zanussi, famous for his 1984 film Life as a Fatal Sexually Transmitted Disease was awarded on May 13 with the honorary title “Doctor Honoris Causa” by the New Bulgarian University. Zannussi, born in 1939, who began his education with a university degree in Physics before graduating from Lodz Film Academy in 1966 read a lecture on “Trends in Modern Film Development” at the acceptance ceremony. Active in the Polish Solidarity Movement, Zanussi is described by film critics as a director who examines “intellectually motivated characters” and focuses “on ideas rather than emotional conditions.”
