High speed is the most likely reason for the car accident in which Kardam, the eldest son of Simeon Saxe-Coburg and his wife Miriam Ungria were seriously injured.

These are the preliminary conclusions of the police investigation.

The Bulgarian daily "24 Hours" writes that they have received details from well-informed sources that Kardam failed to reduce the speed right before the crash.

The crash happened on a very dangerous stretch of the highway A-1 in direction of Madrid. The stretch is called the "dark hole" and has a speed limit of 100 km/hour. Kardam's alleged speed has been at least 150 km/hour.

The last accounts say that he has not even tried to slow down and his Jaguar had not left any skid marks.

Kardam's condition remains unchanged and there has been no new information about it, due to a special request made by his family.

In the mean time, the Spanish press published information Wednesday that the ambulance that arrived at the crash scene has been robbed while the paramedics were trying to help the crash victims. A thief had stolen one of the paramedics' purses with documents, money and her cell phone. The driver's cell phone has also been stolen.
