Bulgaria's Svilengrad Area Suffers Severe Damage Due to Reckless Fire

The cause of the fire that has been raging for the last three days near the Svilengrad villages of Studena, Ravna Gora and Matochina has been defined as carelessness and not arson by the Police investigators.

The investigation has further revealed that the fire has been caused by a local resident.

The fire has severe consequences and led to the extinction of 3,000 dekares of forests, 1,5000 dekares of almond and walnut trees and nearly 5,000 dekares of grass and bushes.

The area is still monitored by firefighters and soldiers.

The fire overtook an area of 3 kilometers and its extinguishing was the work 10 fire truck squads, 35 soldiers and 30 local residents as well Civil Defense teams.

Firefighters and fire extinguishing equipment are staying at the location all through the night, but if the situation remains under control and no new fires brake, part of those involved in fighting the fire would be released by Sunday evening.
