Belgium has problems with Bulgarian nationals coming to the country for a short stay. For this reason re-introduction of visas for Bulgarians is not to be ruled out, said the Belgian ambassador yesterday, quoted by Standart daily. He was asked whether it was true that certain EU member countries may use one clause of the Schengen agreement and re-introduce the visa regime. The ambassador spoke at a news conference in connection with the six-month-long chairmanship of the European Union, which Belgium took over on July 1. Like Belgium, other EU member countries also have problems with sojourning foreign nationals, the ambassador added. That is why during Belgium`s chairmanship these problems will be set forth for the EU`s consideration, he declared. He indicated that Belgium pursued a policy on migration common for the European Union. In the bilateral relations with Bulgaria we have no problems, the ambassador underlined. The EU doesn`t plan to render any particular aid to Bulgaria and Rumania despite the fact that both countries are lagging behind other aspirants for membership.
