Europe to Witness Full Solar Eclipse

Society | August 1, 2008, Friday // 00:00

Almost all Europe, except the most Southern parts of the old continent, is going to witness a full solar eclipse Friday.

In Bulgaria the eclipse will be only partial and is going to begin at 12:26 pm and will last until 13:41 pm. The eclipse is going to last the longest in Northern Bulgaria.

The solar eclipse occurs when the Moon is placed between the Sun and the Earth and all three are aligned. The Moon then covers fully or partially the solar disc and the sun becomes invisible for a short period of time.

Experts recommend that people do not observe the eclipse with the naked eye and to use glasses with special safeguard filters. Sunglasses should not be used either.
