Special Commission to Investigate Train Fire near Plovdiv

Society | July 21, 2008, Monday // 00:00

The reasons behind Monday's train fire near Bulgaria's city of Plovdiv are not clear yet and a special commission is to investigate what caused the blaze, director of the Bulgarian state railway monopoly BDZ, Hristo Monov, said.

"We shall provide complete information about the accident when the commission does its job," Monov told reporters.

Four cars of the train going from Plovdiv to Sofia, which was carrying about 260 people, burst into flames about 6 pm soon after it had departed but train staff stopped the machine and managed to evacuate the people before the fire could spread.

No one was injured.
