Bulgaria's Minister of European Affairs Gergana Grancharova compared Saturday the monitoring reports of the European Commission to an inspection of one's car by the traffic police.

"When you take your car to them for inspection, they just note the problems, there are no praises. The traffic police don't praise you because your headlights are in order but they do tell you if there is a problem with your breaks", Grancharova stated in an interview for the Bulgarian private Darik Radio.

The Minister pointed out the two EC monitoring reports on Bulgaria (on justice and interior, and on absorption of EU funds), which are expected on July 23, had to be considered very carefully by the Bulgarian authorities because "the battle is not lost".

"We are in the second year of our membership in the EU, which is critical for every new member state because in this period we have a combination of many reform efforts", the Minister explained.

She assured the Bulgarian citizens that the country was little by little going to start behaving as a EU member.

"The EC Report is a working report, which will become our Bible for the next six months until the next such report is issued", Grancharova concluded.
