Bulgaria Deputy PM: Leaking of OLAF Report Is Unpleasant Surprise

Bulgaria's Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Plugchieva, who is in charge of monitoring the absorption of EU funds, said Wednesday she was unpleasantly surprised by the leaking of the OLAF Letter and Report to the media.

In a letter sent to Plugchieva two weeks ago, the EU Anti-Fraud Office OLAF exposed political cover-ups of SAPARD funds abuses in Bulgaria.

The letter and the accompanying report leaked to the Bulgarian media after Plugchieva presented them on Tuesday to the Supreme Judicial Council.

"I am surprised in a really unpleasant way by the fact that the Report was turned over to the media, whereas the magistrates whom it targets are not working on it", Plugchieva said emphasizing the OLAF Report was destined for the Bulgarian authorities, not for the media.
