Office buildings near the Sofia Airport have been evacuated as detonations continue to be heard in nearby military storage facilities that are on fire.
Evacuation has caused panic among workers and traffic jams formed as people are fleeing the dangerous zone.
Several minutes before 7 am the Bulgarian capital was shaken by powerful gunpowder explosions, which were heard in the whole city.
The explosions came from a military storage facility located in the northeast Sofia quarter Chelopechene, Kremikovtzi Municipality.
