Bulgarian State Agriculture Fund CEO, Dimitar Tadarakov, resigned Wednesday after a little more than a year in office.
During an extraordinary press conference Mr Tadarakov declared he resigned "on moral grounds", and added that no political pressure had been exerted upon him.
Tadarakov stated that he felt absolutely no guilt over suspended payments from the EU under the SAPARD programme, as the allegations from Brussels concerned possible misappropriation in the Agriculture Fund committed years before he came into office.
The payment of over BGN 270 M for agricultural projects was suspended by the EC during Tadarakov's term in office.
On June 1, Tadarakov stated that the funds would probably soon be unfrozen following an audit, but this did not prove true and is said to be one of the reasons behind his resignation, which is still to be approved.
