Bulgaria Bids Farewell to Famous Singer Dimitar Ekimov

Relatives, friends and fans gathered Wednesday at the funeral of the popular Bulgarian musician and leading singer of the famous Slang group, Dimitar Ekimov - Dimi, who died Sunday afternoon after he crashed in the crash barrier on the Hemus Highway with his motorbike.

Ekimov, 38, lost control over the Suzuki vehicle due to the extremely high speed (about 250 kilometers per hour), police authorities reported.

The singer started his musical career at the age of 14. In 1992 he formed his first band before joining Slang five years later.

He majored in gynecology and practiced his profession during the periods when he was not actively involved with music.

Dimi is married the former TV show host Iva. The couple has a six-year-old daughter.
