Bulgaria's Minister of Education and Science Daniel Valchev announced Saturday in an interview for the Darik Radio that 15% of all high school seniors had done poorly on the school-leaving exams.

These high school graduates would have to retake the so called "maturity examinations" in the fall.

When asked what should be done with the schools where the students did worst, Valchev said that in July the term and year grades of all kids would be compared to the grade they got in the school-leaving exams.

Thus, he said the great questions for certain schools would be posed if this analysis demonstrated that students, who got marks of 2 or 3 (i.e. poor and satisfactory), before that had received term grades of 5 or 6 (i.e. very good and excellent).

In his words, such a discrepancy would be the main problematic things to tackle.
