Two teenage girls owe they life to their guardian angel, according to witnesses and doctors, after trying to commit suicide Wednesday by jumping from the "Asparuhov Most" (The Bridge of Asparuh) near Varna.

The 17 years old Emanuela Asenova ended up only with a broken rib and thigh despite her 53 meters fly down from the bridge to the lake below, while her cousin Severina was stopped from jumping by the police seconds before her suicide attempt.

Around 7:30 pm a woman driving on the bridge had noticed the girls and dialed the emergency 166 number.

After the end of the rescue operation the girls told a story about choosing death rather then becoming prostitutes abroad.

Both girls are residents of the Roma quarter in the town of Devnya near Varna. According to neighbors Emanuela lives with her grandmother, who was frequently absent from the house, while her mother works in Germany. The girl did not attend school.

Preliminary legal proceedings for the case have been initiated with the official reason for the suicide attempt yet to be confirmed.

The bridge is known as a site attracting suicidal people like magnet. There are suicide attempts on the bridge each year while in 2007 the bridge claimed two lives - a 24 years old men from Burgas and a 14 years old school girl from Varna.
