Sofia municipality declared Thursday that with the financial help of the Dutch Ministry of Transport they are to fight the horrific traffic in the Bulgarian capital, introducing an intelligent traffic management system in the city.
A Dutch study team, DHV and Vialis, as well as their local partner Cetra Sofia have started carrying out a feasibility study that is to review the current traffic situation and then propose solutions that are to help the municipality deal with the increasing traffic congestions.
Before the end of the year the study team and the municipality are expected to demonstrate the benefits of modern traffic management techniques and prepare a design and functional specification for the systems and improvements to be implemented.
On Thursday deputy mayor Velizar Stoilov declared that Sofia is already implementing a number of measures to deal with traffic problems, including new equipment at intersections, traffic management centre (TMC), observation cameras and others.
