The Bulgarian Minister of Culture Stefan Danailov opened Tuesday a bas-relief of the Bulgarian poet and revolutionary Hristo Botev in Macedonia's capital Skopje.

The bas-relief is on the wall of the Bulgarian Embassy in Skopja. It includes a stanza of Botev's ballad "Hadzhi Dimitar". The same stanza is written in golden letters in the Sorbonne in Paris as an example of poetry masterpiece.

After the opening ceremony, the Hristo Botev National Foundation awarded the Minister of Culture and Bulgaria's Ambassador to Skopje Miho Mihov certificates and plaques for their "contribution to the preservations of Botev's spirit, ideals, and works in the new high-tech 21st century.

The great Bulgarian poet and revolutionary hero Hristo Botev (1848-1876) is famous for both his poems and journalistic works, and for his participation in Bulgaria's movement for national liberation from the Ottoman Empire.

He died on June 2, 1876, as the leader of a 200-strong unit of Bulgarian rebels, who crossed from Romania to help the rebels of the April Uprising.
