The Sofia Mayor and informal leader of the GERB party Boyko Borisov took part in Thursday in the European People's Party in Brussels, where he held meetings with leading right-wing EU politicians.
Borisov had meetings with the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, the Italian Prime Minister Silvio Berlusconi, and the Greek Prime Minister Costas Caramanlis among others.
The GERB leader was the only Bulgarian politician invited at the forum. He used his connections at the European People's Party in order to lobby against the termination of EU funding for Bulgaria by the European Commission.
The main topics discussed by the EU politicians affiliated with the EPP included the reactions after the Irish voters rejected the Lisbon Treaty in a referendum last week, and the future accession of Croatia to the Union.
