Maoist rebels in Nepal are calling for the renewal of peace talks with the government in a fresh bid to end their 6-year insurgency against the constitutional monarchy. Rebel leader Pushpa Kamal Dahal issued a one-page statement to local press Thursday in which he called for talks to find a "positive political solution" to the violent rebellion. Dahal said the main political parties were in support of talks to end the violence which has devastated the small Himalayan nation. The Nepal News Web site reports that the statement made no mention of previous demands for an interim government, a republic and a constituent assembly to draft a new constitution.
