Bulgaria Road Fund to Be Restructured into Cabinet Agency

By the end of June the "Republican Road Infrastructure" Fund is going to be restructured and will become an Agency associated with the Ministries Council, according to the Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Plugchieva.

Plugchieva made the announcement Wednesday at a meeting about the Euro funds absorption, organized by the National Movement for Stability and Progress (NMSP) Party

The current Road Fund is going to be entirely disbanded and its work would be consulted by a German expert. There will be a Monitoring Council assigned to the Agency as well.

Plugchieva pointed out that the KPMG audit includes very serious conclusions regarding discrepancies in the Fund and recommended that Finance Minister Plamen Oresharski sends the audit results to the Prosecutor's Office.

The admission of projects included in the EU operational transport and regional development programs is currently blocked due to problems at the Road Fund.

Plugchieva had stated that the Fund's restructuring would hopefully contribute to the reactivation of those two programs.
