The ceiling of a hospital room collapsed on a patient on haemodialysis in the west Bulgarian town of Botevgrad.

The woman, Ivanka Dimova, was injured severely but survived. Her husband has stated he was going to sue the Botevgrad hospital.

Dimova is from the nearby town of Pravetz. She was being dialysed, and was lying in her bed when large pieces of concrete fell on her from the ceiling.

The concrete plates that collapsed on the patient were about 5-6 cm (2 inches) thick, and fell from about 3 meters of height.

Another patient who was lying on a nearby bed was also lightly injured. The dialyses ward in the Botevgrad hospital last saw repairs about 10 years ago. The hospital is owned by the Botevgrad Municipality.

The town of Botevgrad is located 60 km northeast of Bulgaria's capital Sofia.
