Dozens of passengers have boarded on boats to get out of trams in Sofia's Nadezhda neighborhood after the torrential rain that flooded the capital city on Friday.

Civil Defense and firefighting teams helped the people, stuck in four motor cars for about an hour.

"The trams were half submerged under water in the neighborhood's subway and we should get the citizens on boats,' officials said.

"The water level in the area reached more than a meter," they explained.

Most of the central streets and boulevards were flooded and the traffic across Sofia is completely blocked as a result of the heavy rain and hail.
