Bulgaria Sets Up Public Register of EU Funded Municipal Projects

Bulgaria's local and central authorities are to establish a public register of the municipal administrations' EU-funded projects by end of June.
This became clear on Tuesday after the meeting of the newly appointed Deputy PM Meglena Plugchieva, who is in charge of monitoring the absorption of EU funding, with representatives of the National Association of Municipalities in the Republic of Bulgarian (NAMRB).
Dora Yankova, Chair of the NAMRB and Mayor of the city of Smolyan, explained that the public register would provide information about the development and efficiency of the submitted projects.
"We expressed our concern that after the submission of many project drafts to the respective agencies we receive no feedback for their evaluation, and whether we are moving toward winning the funding or not", Yankova said.
According to the Deputy PM Meglena Plugchieva, the other great issue for the Bulgarian municipal administrations was the lack of funds to initiate projects. Plugchieva said the Ministry of Finance was working to find a formula to rectify this problem.
