Bulgaria's newly appointed Deputy Prime Minister Meglena Plugchieva held several meetings with key officials on Monday in order to speed up the measures for improving the absorption of EU funds.

After her meeting with the Sofia Mayor Boyko Borisov and the Environment Minister Dzhevdet Chakurov, where the three of them agreed to collaborate in order to save the problematic ISPA-funded project for the Sofia water supply system, Plugchieva headed straight to the Head of the State Agency for National Security (DANS) Petko Sertov.

Their meeting was closed for the media, and the Deputy PM did not speak to the journalists after its end. The cabinet press service announced, however, that the two have discussed the role of DANS for the control over the absorption of EU funds.

After her meeting with Sertov, Plugchieva and the Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev met with the administration team responsible for the absorption of EU funds for agriculture, including the Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Foods Dimitar Peychev, and the Director of the State Agriculture Fund Dimitar Tadarukov.
