The German Interior Minister Wolfgang Scheuble arrived on an official visit to Bulgaria on Friday.
Scheuble had meetings with the Bulgarian Prime Minister Sergey Stanishev, the Deputy PM on EU funds absorption Meglena Plugchieva, and the Interior Minister Mihail Mikov.
The main aim of Scheuble's visit is to discuss matters of bilateral relations as well as of regional and EU cooperation.
During their meeting, Bulgaria's and Germany's Interior Ministers discussed a wide range of questions related to police cooperation and the fight against organized crime.
The German Minister pointed out the two countries had a joint interest in dealing with their problems and challenges. He added that the EU-interior policy would have even greater significance after the entering into force of the Lisbon Reform Treaty.
In Scheuble's words, the most important thing in the bilateral efforts to combat organized crime was to achieve a maximally intensive exchange of information, and put forth EUROPOL's role.
