Sofia zoo celebrated Wednesday its 120th anniversary with a special program and free access for its visitors.

Clowns, jugglers and some of Bulgaria's most popular music stars, such as Rositsa Kirilova and Milena Slavova, as well as Guard Brass Band amused the youngest children and their parents, who decided to visit the zoo on its holiday.

The mayor of the capital city, Boyko Borisov, has also attended the festive event.

"The Guard Band has made a barter deal with the garden, providing music for its holiday for plumes for their hats," the mayor joked.

"In the autumn, we are going to separate a zone in the zoo, where people and animals will walk together," Director Ivan Ivanov announced.

Sofia Zoo was founded by royal decree in 1888. It is the largest zoological garden on the Balkans with area of 230,000 square meters. It houses about 800 animals representing more than 260 species.
