An "American Night" in Sofia will mark the 110 anniversary of George Gershwin's birthday.
The commemoration is scheduled for May 17 at the National Palace of Culture in Sofia.
Gershwin's music will be performed by the Festival Symphonic Orchestra conducted by Wolfgang Rögner. The Orchestra will partner with the talented German pianist Julia Barta.
Julia Barta has graduated from the Musical Academy in Hanover. During her artistic career she has won many musical awards in Germany, Italy and Switzerland. She has also released a solo compact disc with music of Shuman and Brahms
Gershwin's admirers will be able to hear two of the composer's most famous pieces - "Rhapsody in Blue" and "An American in Paris".
Other pieces included in the upcoming concert are Bernstein's' overture "Candid" and Symphony Number 9 from Dvorak.
The concert is under the patronage of the US Ambassador in Bulgaria John Beyrle as part of the 13th Art Salon held from May 11 to May 22 in Sofia.
