An exhibition dedicated to the life of the Bulgarian revolutionary hero and world-renown poet Hristo Botev (1848-1876) was opened Monday in the National Library in Sofia by the Parliament Speaker Georgi Pirinski.

The exhibit will remain in the National Library "St. Cyril and St. Methodius" for one week. It shows for the first time in public the personal notebook of Hristo Botev, which according to Pirinski, was the most interesting item on display.

The exhibition also features Botev's original volume of poetry, the only one issued during his lifetime (in 1875) together with the revolutionary and politician Stefan Stambolov, called "Songs and Poems by Botev and Stambolov".

The exhibition is organized for the remembrance of the 160th year since Botev's death on June 2, 1876, when he was the leader and commander of an armed unit of 200 Bulgarian Г©migrГ©s from Romania that came to the aid of the Bulgarians during the April Uprising staged against the Ottoman Empire.

Dr. Boyan Botev, Chair of the National Foundation "Hristo Botev" and a great-grandson of General Kiril Botev, a brother of Hristo Botev, presented the Director of the National Library Prof. Boryana Hristova with an honorary plate and a certificate for her contribution to the preservation of Botev's spirit.
