World record-holder Georgi Markov pumped a combined total of 367.5 kilograms (808.5 pounds) to win first place overall in the men's 77 kilogram (169.4 pound) weight-class. Markov, who holds the 165.0 kilogram (363 pound) world record in the 69 kilogram (151.8 pound) weight class, also lifted 167.5 kilograms (368.5 pounds) for a gold in the snatch and placed second in the clean-and-jerk by lifting 200.0 kilograms (440 pounds). Zlatan Vanev of Bulgaria, who took second place overall with a combined total of 362.5 kilograms (797.5 pounds), pressed 207.5 kilograms (456.5 pounds) for first place in the clean-and-jerk. The success comes after Bulgaria won one gold medal with olympic gold medalist Galabin Boevski on men's 69 kilogram. Boevski swept the men's 69 kilogram (151.8 pounds) weight-class by pumping 160.0 kilograms (352 pounds) in the snatch and 190 kilograms (418 pounds) in the clean-and-jerk. He made five of his six lifts, only missing an attempt to add half a kilogram (1 pound) to the 196.5 kilogram (432.3 pound) clean-and-jerk world record he set in 1999.
