Sofia citizens got yet another entertainment opportunity on Friday as the emblematic Ariana artificial lake was finally filled with water after 20 years of drought, allowing boats to drift in the center of the busy capital city.

The project for the reconstruction of Ariana, which is the first thing people see when they enter the Borissova Garden Park, cost BGN 3 M and was funded by a private Sofia company.

Sofia Mayor Boyko Borisov and the head of the concessionaire Ivo Krastev were the ones who opened the water pumps and let the fluid fill the pond be.

During the winter, Ariana was turned into an ice rink to delight the skating maniacs.
