It's officially spring and people from across Bulgaria have ditched the winter coats and rolled up their sleeves to enjoy the feel-good rituals of spring cleaning, as well as other environmentally friendly activities.

In the capital Sofia more than a thousand enthusiasts took part in the initiative under the motto "Clean up with me". The diligence of the people, who gathered in the Borissova garden, was monitored personally by the mayor Boyko Borisov.

Near the town of Stara Zagora, US Ambassador to Bulgaria John Beyrle launched an ambitious forestation initiative, part of "Save the forest" campaign.

The campaign has raised more than BGN 50 000 so far, to be invested in the restoration of more than 100 decares of forestland.
