The EU is expected to unfreeze payments for Bulgaria under the Phare and ISPA programmes until the end of April, regional development minister Assen Gagauzov said on Wednesday.

Gagauzov added that after an EC audit is concluded Bulgaria will most likely have access to the funds again.

"If there are additional recommendations in the report that we have to meet we will do it," the minister declared.

In the beginning of March the EC terminated payments for the country under the PHARE and ISPA and over EUR 217 M under the Regional Development Program over alleged frauds.

The Commission has also frozen Bulgaria's funding under SAPARD amounting at about EUR 100 M.
