A total of five children, living in an orphanage in Bulgaria's second largest city of Plovdiv were intoxicated after eating mouse poison on Friday.

The orphans have been taken to hospital and discharged a bit later after undergoing stomach lavages.

The poison was placed in small boxes in the corners of all premises in the orphanage and the children swallow it thinking it was food.

A team, appointed by Plovdiv's Deputy Mayor Krassimir Anguelov, conducted a check-up for some other irregularities in the home for abandoned children.

The case is still under investigation.
