Sofia University "St. Kliment of Ohrid" opened Thursday its first fair for students, who consider applying to the oldest institution of higher education in modern Bulgaria.

The student fair is located in the central lobby of the main building of Sofia University. It includes sixteen counters with advertising and information materials - one for each of its sixteen departments.

Each department is also represented by a person, who gives detailed information about the study programs, and the university and department resources to the student wannabes.

"The question is not to attract the greatest number of applicants but to convince the best and the most intelligent young people in Bulgaria that their place is at Sofia University "St. Kliment of Ohrid"," said Ivan Ilchev, the President of the school.

Ilchev said the university faculty and administration have been facing legislative contradictions and issues in their attempts to modernize the education in the institution.

"I had to argue with cabinet ministers for three months before we could be allowed to participate in one EU project," the University President complained. Yet, he declared that Sofia University was there for those who want to invest in their own future.
