Bulgarian authorities consider it almost sure that the deadly fire in Sofia-Kardam train, which killed nine people, was a terror attack, said Monday security and terrorism expert Yuli Abadzhiev in an interview for the national bTV channel.

"The possibility that it was an act of terrorism reached to 98% as it is ridiculous to claim the flames were caused by a burning window-curtain or a cigarette end," the official explained.

The investigation authorities assume the blaze started in two separate spots in about one-minute interval.

"The flames swept through the two cars for not more than seven minutes and if they were caused by a burning object, the process should have taken at least 15-20 minutes," Abadzhiev commented.

"Temperature with too high values bended the cars but all I could say for sure is that the final results of the investigation would show if the fire was a terrorist attack," he added.
