Regional Prosecutor: Terrorist Act Version in Train Fire Investigation Drops

Society | March 8, 2008, Saturday // 00:00

The version that the recent deadly blaze in Sofia-Kardam train was a terrorist attack dropped at the current stage of investigation, the regional prosecutor from Bulgaria's town of Pleven announced Saturday.

"What we can say for sure is that the reason for the fire was not a blast, caused by some explosive device," Prosecutor Mario Vassilev explained.

"The authorities still continue working on the terrorist version as well but there is no evidence, which could prove it so far," he added.

A total of nine people died after flames swept through two cars of the night train on February 28.
