Russian Legend Nikita Mihalkov to be Guest at Sofia Film Fest

The famous Russian filmmaker and actor Nikita Mihalkov is to arrive in Bulgaria on March 7 to be guest at Sofia Film Fest, which was opened Thursday in the National Palace of Culture in the capital city.

Among the other stars, who will join the event are the French scenario-writer Jean-Claude Carrier and the German director of Turkish origin Fatih Akin.

Mihalkov as well as Carrier are to receive lifetime achievement awards, given by Sofia Municipality.

Bulgarian director Professor Vladislav Ikonomov will also be given the same award in the first evening of the fest.

More than 180 movies are part of the program of the festival, including dozens of documentaries and shorts.

This year's event will be opened by showing the Bulgarian movie "Which Way Today", directed by Ranguel Valchanov.

Viewers will be given the opportunity to enjoy many foreign films, the Oscar winner "There Will Be Blood" among them.
