The fire that enveloped a night train in Bulgaria, killing nine people, could have been a result of a terrorist act, Chief Prosecutor Boris Velchev said on Wednesday.

"That is one of the versions police authorities work on since the very first day," Velchev explained.

"There is no evidence that could confirm such a version," the prosecutor added.

Among the main reasons for the blaze that are still under investigation is a sloppy mistake made by members of the staff or passengers.

More than 100 witnesses of the hellish accident have been interrogated so far and a number of expertises set.

Bulgaria declared Wednesday a day of mourning over the victims, who lost their lives in the flames that swept through two cars of a night train, traveling from the capital city of Sofia to the northern town of Kardam on February 28.
