Freight Train Derails in Bulgaria, No Casualties

Society | March 5, 2008, Wednesday // 00:00

A freight train derailed early on Wednesday near the north-eastern Bulgarian town of Sindel, blocking the rail road but claiming no victims.

According to officials, one of the derailed cars carried acid but no hazardous chemicals were spilled in the incident.

The train is a property of the Bulgarian Railroad Company (BRC), which is the first privately held railroad company that has a license to transport freight over Bulgaria's national railroad network.

The incident happens on the day of mourning in memory of nine victims of a hellish train fire in northern Bulgaria.
