A 20-year-old lady was the first to be identified among the casualties of the fire that raged through two sleeping compartments on a train in northern Bulgaria early on Friday.
Valeriya Zheleva Zheleva was identified Saturday evening by her parents and sister at the Medical University in Pleven, where the disfigured charred bodies of the eight victims pulled underneath the debris underwent autopsy and DNA analyses.
The news was broken Sunday morning by the lady's sister herself in an interview for Darik radio.
Valeriya was in her second year of studies at the Chemistry Department with Sofia University.
Prosecutor Valeri Mirchev, observing the train fire case, confirmed the information but refused to disclose further details about the victim's identity.
The fire swept through an overnight train travelling from the capital Sofia to the north-eastern town of Kardam shortly before midnight, leaving at least eight people dead and another nine injured.
Officials suspect that the number of casualties may rise if the body parts scarred throughout the charred carriages do not match the eight bodies.
